The place to check out in Glasgow is the Polo Lounge, just south of George Square (be warned everywhere is called George in this town). The architecture of this place is simply wonderful as it is located in an old bank. Inside it is really many bars all co-joined and co-owned by the person who owns everything in Glasgow.

Many of the main floor rooms I would be happy to live in for the rest of my life as long as I have a constant supply of brandy and cigars. In the basement there are a couple of clubs. On sunday we experienced a full dance floor dancing to cheesy pop where djing means one random track rolled by another. Do make sure you don’t fall !  As the bar staff don’t sweep up, you can be dancing on broken glass for most of the evening.

If it all goes wrong you can re-style your hair with the straighteners in the toilets which take 2 pound coins.

The girls are all very straight and young looking (found queuing for the straighteners or performing a kareoke at barcamp night), or incredibly butch. In addition you will also be baby sitting boys dressed in their ben sherman shirts celebrating their 18th birthdays or in awe of the men sporting their Kilts.

It might have been Vincent van Gogh who once said “ I wish they would only take me as I am.” Which is an apt quote for any girl at the newly entrenched club called Wish.  

The new location near Spitalfield market is fantastic for the trendier set of Dalston and Hackney lesbians (I mean, those of us trying to recreate the nyc east village, from times gone by). The crowd was certainly eclectic and everything from cat suits, terrorist balaclava to jeans and t-shirt works here. Set on two floors, in what at first sight seems akin to a typical Shoreditch design agency office, rather than a bar, one soon gets used to the space.

I for one appreciated the spilt between the techno dance floor downstairs and more mainstream tunes and spacious bar upstairs. I’m not sure if the performances need a mention but it’s worth checking out the photographs. Oh and if you spot my friends, do vote for them.

The Capricorns Ball hosted by the sexy Maxine and her fellow friends whose birthday inconveniently falls over the festive season is just a perfect way to recover from January blues.

Gentle and fun with deep groovy jazz tunes made this rather surreal venue above KFC on Brixton High Street seem like a safe haven away from the dull grey, cold and dampness that is London.

1 month of travelling and no lesbians bar or clubs to report here. Although as Homosexuality is strictly illegal what else did I expect.  

I suggest that one scans the guides of Mumbai occasionally as there are some hints. In addition I recommend staying  at Raheem Residency in Alleppy.

I love holiday’s and the experience of downloading an out of date lesbian listings, to confuse the charming locals, in my search of venues was reminiscent of being in lost in China.

We started at the Prince of Wales, which was not on any list, but has to be mentioned for the genuinely unpretentious and gorgeous women many sporting traditional short hair, thus tantalising my gaydar.

After stopping for food, we progressed to gay friendly “The Scotchman and his pack”,  (St. Michael’s Hill, Kingsdown) in the posh grammar school stuffed district of Bristol.  I got hugged by Becky the bar maid, for she didn’t know that the pub had been outed. In fact, according to the fishing obsessed owner, the listing is 11 years old and he had e-mailed the site owner to inform them that the pub was indeed gay friendly but not gay exclusive. Just like my first website the owner had left university and thus lost the right to update.

Upon the Scotchman recommendation we rocked on up the hill to Bar 155. This lovely little cafe bar was decked in the joy Christmas which in itself is worth checking out. Aiden and Peter run their bar for the local community (rather than the gay community) and the clientele ranged from students, couples, groups of friends and elderly locals. Enormously friendly. It was enough to end our evening by discovering that we were part of the lock in.

Suggestions for dancing include the Vibe and Queen Shilling which allegedly sports the butch variety of lesbian.

Breaking all my rules, I am posting a review of a pub that is not really ‘Out’ yet. However the women (a few of whom who work) in this quintessential pub should not be missed. Amazing Tattoos and piercings are juxtaposed in this tobacco stained old fashioned establishment. Oh and these ladies are very friendly.
With it being the lead up to Christmas, there is an extreme abundance of men in suits, without the manners to ask before stealing your lighter or your seat. However by catching the eye of the bar maid I found it much quicker to be served than my male friends.

In checking out this dance night, I missed bumping into the cast of the L word, who where drinking at the Candy Bar. Which explains why the mirror balls out numbered the patrons.
